It is great that the NFL has finally acknowledged the link of playing football to CTE. It has been sad to see some of the the Chicago football heroes such as Jim McMahon fight not only their health issues, but with the NFL for acknowledgment and post career support/treatment. Even still, after Dave Duerson shot himself in the chest to preserve his brain for these very studies.
I recently read about some promising research on preventing concussions focusing on wood peckers. Interestingly, the research didn't focus on helmets but on a collar around the neck that simulates the structure of the woodpecker. Live research has begun and it is my hope that testing and approval is fast tracked in order to make the sport safer.
I am no scientist but, I also hope the research is somehow expanded to study if there is a related link between possible CTE and all of the domestic abuse and violent that occurs with football stars. For example, Ray Rice, Greg Hardy, Adrian Peterson, and Ray McDonald... It is sad to see so many promising young talents turn so violent.
